Runner Ducks

Runner Ducks

In every generation, there is a tendency to slide back towards the original wild type, therefore care should be taken when selecting breeders. Runners have a wine-bottle shape with long necks.

An excessive supply of feed, or diet high in fat, results in obese birds.

Standard varieties in North America: Fawn and White, Penciled White, Black, Buff, Chocolate, Cumberland Blue, Grey

Not-standard varieties: Faery Fawn, Blue Faery Fawn, Golden, Saxony, Blue Fawn, Pastel, Trout, Dusky, Khaki, Cinnamon, Silver, Lavender, Lilac, Blue-Brown Penciled, Blue Fawn Penciled, Emery Penciled, Porcelain Penciled, Splashed (Holderread, p62)

Faults to avoid when choosing breeders: round head, prominent forehead, short bill, upwards cocked tail, prominent shoulders and chest, weak legs, original wild type concave bill
